The importance of Yoga in my life
As you may already know, I am a yoga teacher where yoga is an important part of both, my personal and professional life. Can you believe that practicing yoga saved my life?
Yes, that is right, I was going through some challenging times in the past and yoga kept me mentally and physically strong, out of trouble, and focused. I am going to describe here, what yoga is, and the benefits yoga can do in your life.
So, what is Yoga?
Yoga has been around for more than 5,000 years. Yoga, an ancient practice and meditation, has become increasingly popular in today’s busy society. For many people, yoga provides a retreat from their chaotic and busy lives.
The goal during yoga practice is to challenge yourself physically, but not to feel overwhelmed. At this “edge,” the focus is on your breath while your mind is accepting and calm. There are more than 100 different forms of yoga. Some are fast-paced and intense. Others are gentle and relaxing.
Yoga does more than burn calories and tone muscles. It’s a total mind-body workout that combines strengthening and stretching poses with deep breathing and meditation or relaxation.
- Yoga is a beautiful physical, mental, and spiritual practice with a holistic approach.
- It calms and relaxes your body and soul.
- It helps you to stay fit and healthy.
- It builds the energy to work and stay active the whole day long.
- Yoga helps to achieve clarity in life.
- Yoga and meditation are also helpful in removing various bad habits like smoking, drinking, and overeating.
- Yoga is a self-healing practice; it improves blood circulation and reduces diseases. In some cases, it has been seen that yoga people have completely recovered from diabetes, high cholesterol, muscle problems, and more.
Why are we doing yoga? What is yoga good for?
There are so many benefits of practicing yoga, but I will just name 10 benefits here:
- Yoga increases flexibility.
- It can improve your posture.
- It keeps your joints healthy.
- It is a powerful mindfulness practice.
- It reduces stress.
- Yoga boosts metabolism.
- It builds muscle strength.
- It relaxes your mind and body.
- It is great for insomnia.
- Yoga helps you to make healthier choices.
How does yoga do this?
Yoga uses various postures so-called asanas, sequences, mantras, relaxation, breathing exercises, and meditation. Yoga overall makes us feel more positive, energetic, happy people with increased self-control. Yoga can be taught anywhere, as it requires a little space, and to any age group with any health issues as it can be easily modified. In the busy life of today, yoga acts as an antidote for relieving stress and tension.
Yoga has been a huge part of my life on a personal and professional level. I have been doing yoga regularly for many years. Yoga transformed my life, and I am so grateful for adopting yoga. I really am, and I am honestly not sure where would I be without it.
Beach visualization
Visualization relaxation is an effective way to relax the mind and body by picturing a relaxing scene. Please close your eyes gently. Imagine it is a hot summer day, and you are resting on your favorite beach. You have a day off, no rushing anywhere, you are in a great mood, totally relaxing with your closed eyes next to your loving person. You can feel the sun on your skin and feel the breeze playing with your hair, hearing seagulls nearby and you are feeling so relaxed.
Can you picture this moment? Yes? Keep this picture in your mind and return to it whenever you feel stressed and need to relax, all you need to do is just close your eyes and visualize this picture for a few minutes. Now, let us come back to this moment, to this room, and gently open your eyes.
